V-belts for your systems and processes

PU V-belts are used for a variety of applications in drive and conveyor technology. Often extruded V-belts are also welded onto conveyor belts as guide or carrier elements. BEHAbelt processes high-quality materials which can be provided with special properties such as UV-C resistance, metal or X-ray detectable or antistatically dissipative on request.

Which characteristics do the BEHAbelt V-Belts have?

BEHAbelt offers a wide range of different V-belts. Depending on the area of use and application, the profiles can be reinforced by so-called tension members (polyester, aramid, steel and weldable glass fibre PU). Thanks to different Shore hardnesses and surfaces (smooth, rough), optimum drive and transport properties as well as a long service life are guaranteed.

BEHAbelt Rundriemen Material

What material are the V-Belts made of?

BEHAbelt uses high-quality PU (polyurethane) and TPE (polyester) materials for the production of round belts, which guarantee an optimal performance and long service life in conveyor technology applications.

In which dimensions are the BEHAbelt V-Belts available?

Basically all V-Belts are manufactured with radii at the edges. The dimensions are according to the standards DIN 2215 and ISO 4184.
Smaller and medium geometries are 6 x 4 mm (Y), 8 x 5 mm (M), 10 x 6 mm (Z), 13 x 8 mm (A) and 17 x 11 mm (B). For larger load requirements, V-belts are available in the dimensions 22 x 14 mm (C) and 32 x 20 mm (D).

BEHAbelt is a specialist for the design of special characteristics for V-Belts

As a result of our own production and the direct access to the different requirements in the market, BEHAbelt is able to offer a kind of modular system for the upgrading of round belts to optimise your installation.

The following special characteristics are offered:

PU safe

PU safe (metal and X-ray detectable round belts): These V-Belts make an important contribution to food safety, because detached plastic particles can be detected by metal detectors and X-ray units.

hydrolysis resistant

Hydrolysis resistance (HY): The use of hydrolysis-resistant raw materials guarantees a longer service life, especially in humid environments, at higher temperatures and regular cleaning.

uv-bestaendig

UV-C resistance: Special additives increase the resistance of the round belts to UV-C waves, which can lead to premature ageing of conventional plastics. This extends the service life of the belts, especially when UV-C lamps are used for surface decontamination.

antistatisch

Antistatic dissipative: By adding special additives, electrostatic charge is automatically dissipated via the sliding base or reversing drum, which ensures better transfer of products in the paper industry, for example, and prevents damage to electronic components in the conveyor section.

kaelte

Low-temperature flexibility: For applications in the deep-freeze and low-temperature range, we offer material combinations that retain their flexibility and product characteristics at temperatures down to -30°C.

PU Plus

PU Plus (reduced elongation): The unique BEHAbelt materials PU75A and PU85A „PLUS“ optimize the elongation performance of round belts, i.e. the dimensional stability, in critical applications

Lebensmittelsicherheit

Food safety: FDA/EC conformity for all profile surfaces. USDA conformity for smooth profile surfaces.

In which applications are V-Belts often used?

The wide range of V-belts made of PU and TPE from BEHAbelt allows the optimal selection of the most suitable product for applications in the transport or drive technology.

In the following you will find an overview of some typical areas of application.

What other profiles are available besides V-belts?

It is generally recommended that suitable V-belt pulleys according to DIN 2217 are used for V-belts according to DIN 2215. Outside the standardised geometry, V-belts with a curved surface and steeper flank angles are used. Other special designs are V-ribbed belts (Poly-V), twin V-belts, V-belts with vaulted top and double V-belts.
Round belts represent a similarly large and varied group. These are also available as so-called hollow round belts, which can be mechanically connected with a nipple.
In addition, BEHAbelt offers special profiles such as T-profiles, square or U-profiles and any number of other special profiles, which can be developed and manufactured according to customer specifications thanks to our own tool construction.

Are V-belts also used as guide profiles for belts?

Yes, V-belts are often used as a guide profile on the running side of a belt to support the straight running of e.g. long and/or narrow conveyor belts or to absorb transverse forces in case of lateral product feed.
Furthermore, the V-belts can be applied as an edge limitation instead of corrugated edges.
The V-belts can be designed smooth or notched.

How do I weld and splice V-belts correctly?

V-belts from BEHAbelt can be purchased as ware by the meter, made up endlessly, delivered or welded on site.
There are two ways of welding the V-belts, either butt welding (for non-reinforced profiles) or overlap welding (for reinforced profiles).

Simplified, the welding process is mainly carried out in four steps:

Keilriemen vorbereiten

Preparing V-Belts

The belt ends are cut off by angle cut or 90° cut (e.g. with BEHAbelt AS02).

Riemen in Führungseinheit bzw. Schweißgerät einspannen

Fix the belt in the guide unit or welding unit

In the friction welding machine RS02 shown here, the guide unit is integrated. When using welding paddles, an additional guide unit or clamp (e.g. FZ01 Vario or FZ02/3) is required to achieve perfect alignment of the belt ends to be joined.

Riemenprofil verschweißen

Welding the belt profile

The heat generated by friction in the friction welding machine splices the belt in seconds. When using welding paddles, 290°C is required for PU belts and 240°C for TPE belts. The BEHAbelt welding machines (e.g. EErgo) ensure a constant welding temperature even at different ambient temperatures.

This video illustrates how the friction welding machine works.

Riemen säubern

Clean the belt

After the welding process and the cooling time only the welding bead has to be removed with a edge cutter (BEHAbelt SE02) or sharp knife.

Comparison of the characteristics of the reinforcements

The use of reinforcement members in belt profiles provides more or less working elongation depending on the type, although the stiffness is opposite to this.
