Geothermal energy:
|
When restructuring the company in 2004, the Beha brothers placed the emphasis on geothermal energy technology. A trump card, because since then the company has drawn only electricity, both for the building and for the process technology. Despite a new orientation and increase in production, paid for energy requirements have been reduced to a quarter. The emission of some 25 tons of carbon dioxide per year has been avoided.
This has been made possible through the interaction between temperatures on the earth’s surface and those at depths of between 90 to 130 meters. 35 geothermal probes create the link between the two worlds.
It functions according to a simple principle. Through cooling ceilings, heat is extracted from the building in the summer and conducted down into the ground. In the winter, heat from the earth's interior is used to generate an inlet temperature of 42 degrees Centigrade via a heat pump. Sufficient to warm the rooms pleasantly, even when temperatures are below zero.
But the technology ensures not only a pleasant working atmosphere. The power is calculated so that the process heat can also be diverted and precisely controlled. The facility is designed in such a way that additional production facilities can be added in the future. Higher capital expenditure is compensated by the energy costs saved. "The higher fuel prices rise, the more geothermal energy technology becomes worthwhile", says management, who are convinced they have made the right decision.
