With heated paddles, there are 3 variables that can lead to faulty, costly splices. Many of these errors are undetectable to the naked eye — there is often no way to spot a faulty splice until it breaks.

1. Wrong or inconsistent pressure applied by hand can create uneven welds. Too much pressure and molten material is pushed out the sides, resulting in a weak connection at the middle of the belt ends. Too little pressure and bonding is uneven, resulting in soft spots for a weak connection.
2. Misalignment of belt ends can cause weak joints as less than 100% of the belt ends are fused.
3. Guesswork on the temperature of the paddle can cause uncertainty. Did enough material melt to create a solid splice? Is the temperature the same over time or has the device lost its ability to generate consistent heat?
